Trip to the Southern Most Point, KW, Fl

We are glad we decided to switch to a HDT for hauling our 36' 5th wheel.

Our previous tow vehicle was a Chevrolet 3500 with a 454 engine and a turbo 400 trans. We loved the 5th wheel but we have limited our travels to within a days travel due to white knuckle driving hauling such a heavy 5th wheel. We were introduced to the HDT arena by a friend who used his HDT for business and travel with his 5th wheel. I was hooked.

We did our research and as a qualified CDL driver, we quickly made our purchase of this 2000 Volvo 420 with a 370 ISM Cummins engine and a 10 Speed.

We converted the bunk area into a goucho seating area for 3-4 passengers with seatbelts. I also talked the dealer into allowing me to select the design for the paint job which they were already going to do, so I got the paint for free.

We have now been able to go anywhere since we got our HDT, even to Key West, Florida after putting it off for over 30 years.

HDT Goucho Seating
by: DonC

That rig looks just awesome. I'm not familiar with Goucho seating so this is a new rig just begging for more photos. At least I'd like to see more.

Why couldn't you visit the Florida Keys before the HDT? Was it roads? Fuel availability?

Plus you mentioned having a CDL, but since this is a personal vehicle are you still required to have permits and to stop at Ports of Entry?
